Number of universities in Haryana has increased to 30

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said as a result of effective steps being taken to promote education, the number of private and public universities in the state has increased to 30 from merely five in the year 2004-05. Besides, 479 new technical institutes have also been opened during the same period thus raising their intake capacity to 1.42 lakh. Hooda was speaking during the first convocation of O P Jindal Global University in Sonepat where he also gave away degrees to L.Lb, LLM and MBA students last evening, an official release said here today. As a result of opening of the 479 new technical institutions in the state, their total number has increased to 640. As the top priority, his government has concentrated on both the expansion and improvement of quality of education, he said. Apart from increasing the number of universities and technical institutes and their intake capacity, the government has also increased the number of schools and colleges. "Haryana is the first state in the country to have set up a medical college for women in government sector at Khanpur Kalan and medical colleges in government sector are also being set up at Nalhar in Mewat, Karnal and Faridabad," he added. Besides implementing a number of incentive based schemes, Right to Education Act had been executed in the state to ensure that no child was deprived of this right. These measures had helped students belonging to weaker sections of the society to get education, besides checking the drop-out rate in the state.
